Open 3.5:  Cambridge @ Concord-Acton
2014-03-05

The semi-final was at the Concord-Acton Squash Club.  The CASC provided beer and tasty snacks.  I brought a carrot & cashew curry.

Divu showed up early and the rest late, so a crowd of 15 CASC supporters crowded the gallery to cheer Divu's opponent, Ben Whitham.  Ben played like a wizard, frequently surprising, but he's got a few years behind him and was no match for Divu's speed.

All our players were incredibly athletic, hitting hard --mostly deep -- and pouncing with the drop shot at opportune times.  The other side did the same, actually, but I think we won partly on youth.  After the contest their captain confided that when he learned Iain was playing down at #4, he knew they were in trouble!  Check out the movies below for footage of all the players.  I feel very privileged to be part of such a formidable team.

Charles was invaluable in coaching the players.   Thank you Charles!

As you all know I have strong loyalties to Concord-Acton -- it is my principal club -- so permit me a bittersweet satisfaction at the results.  I rejoiced in all of my players' success, while simultaneously pained at the other's defeat.  Then again, they didn't ask me to be captain, so they get what they deserve.  Joking!  Phil and Joe have done a fine job.  In fact, The CASC team thanked Joe with a $160 gift certificate to the best restaurant in Concord.  Doesn't that seem appropriate?  :-)

Heartfelt thanks to Concord-Acton for putting on a good spectacle.  Best of luck in the future.
